My First Day

Alright so My first day at starbucks was actually Friday night. I went in with two other girls (it was supposed to be three, but one of them dicided not to show) and basically had a tour of the store, filled out some paper work and did some coffee tasting. It was this very coffee tasting that kept me up until around 2 AM when I had to be at work at 7 AM.

Anyway, I got to work a few minutes early and was thrown into the job right away. I was on, “Hot Bar” which means that if anyone wanted to buy a hot drink on this lovely morning in late September it was either going to be made by me (on my first day) or by Kevin. (Yes, the Kevin of which I often speak).
Later on KEv told me that he hadn’t worked on a Saturday morning in quite a while, but “apparently Saturday mornings are worse than weekday mornings”. He said that it was the most stressful situation he has been in while working for Starbucks.

So, needless to say, I had a blast!!! I go in again tomorrow at 7 AM.

Irony

So I continued my church culture study today by going to Northwest Christian Church. I have been to this church before and it’s amazing how the messages always seem to be exactly what I am thinking about as of late. This church is actually quite emergent in philosophy.

Today was no different; it was about how Jesus was angered by the Pharises for judging people acording to the laws of Jewish tradition rather than just the laws that God had commanded. Also how modern churches seem to have become so mixed up in how to get more people into their church and less about the teachings of Jesus.
Steve also talked about knowing you’ve probably fallen sway to this religeous way of thinking when you are afraid to embrace new ideas, or are judging someone based upon how they worship.

I left this service with a feeling of rejuvination and encouragement, but, alas, all good things come to an end. When I got home my mom told me about this sermon that Joe had preached about the evils of this new age thinking being brought into the church; This acceptance of things that are heretical in nature (ie. The Holy Spirit couldn’t possibly have feminine qualities.). Don’t quote me; that just sounds like something that would come out of heartland right now.

I think I’m going to listen to this sermon.

My Attempt At Writing…

Alright so it’s finally here… A while back KEv did this sexual purity conference thing, and he asked me to write a story for it. So away I went, and in a few hours this story was born. Please, give me your thoughts, and possibly your ideas for names. But for now it will remain titled…

Design Change?

blog-header.jpg Alright guys, I’m not sure of how many of you liked my old blog header, quite frankly I’m not sure if there are any of you out there at all, but it’s gone now. I messed up my blog completely and had to update it. Now for some reason the new version does not let me have a header the same size as my old one. I’ve tryed croping it and it just turns out pixely. So, for the time being, I have created a semi less intricate blog header for you to enjoy. Hopefully I will have something else soon.

Also I finally just said, “screw it” with my archives page… There were three posts on it and I decided that it would be better just to re-post them; so the three posts directly beneath this one are from my site before Kevin messed it up. There is an Archives page up there, but it is much better than the page that I had before. From now on everything that I post will be sorted by either category or month posted.

Ignorance = Innocence?

ignorance-innocence.jpg

Ok, so sin entered the world, because of Adam (Romans 5:12).
I get that, but my question is, “to what extent?”
Adam sinned by eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil,
and because of that action, sin entered the world for all men.
But I was wondering if that scripture should be taken completely literally.
Picture this; Sin was already in the world, but because we were ignorant,
we were innocent.

We see this in the fact that when Adam and Eve ate from the tree of
knowledge they knew that they were naked and covered themselves(Genisis 3:7).

This statement implies that they did not know what being naked was before
they were given knowledge. But that doesn’t change the fact that they were
naked when they did not have the knowledge.

Facts are constantly around us; however it is not until we become aware of
these facts that dilemmas are created. In the same way, unless we know what
the wrong choice is we cannot make the decision to make the right one, and
therefore cannot be held accountable for our actions.

So, back to Adam and Eve, I theorize that it was not sin that entered the world,
but rather just the knowledge that what they were doing was sin.
And because of that knowledge they would forevermore be held accountable for
the actions that they now knew were wrong.

I always get very scared when I start to question our English translations of the Bible,
but sometimes it just doesn’t make sense.
Please, if you have any info on this subject, help me out.

The American Dream

The Church Is Fucked Up

american-dream.jpg

It has been fucked by pride, lust, power, and fear, and well, it ended up giving us this big fat baby called the American church.

The American Dream is a beautiful thing:
A nice care (or three), a nice house in the burbs where you pretty much hide away from the rest of the world. Just be sure to water your lawns and have your smokin’ hot wife, and the little Vietnamese girl you “rescued” from a life of drugs and prostitution, on hand to show off to all your neighbors that live in houses that look exactly like yours.

O yea! This gated community comes with the greenest lawns the biggest pools and an assured seat at some fancy restaurant every Sunday afternoon, not to mention a four car garage to suit your, “Needs”.

The best part is you never have to say more than a, “Hi” or “how ya doin” to someone you might pass on you morning jog through the neighborhood.

Some Call this the American Dream;
I call it the American Church

Wasn’t Jesus (You know that guy who “Christians” claim to worship) the one who said sell all your possessions, give the money to the poor and come and follow me?

But they can co-exist right?

SURE?
I’m positive that’s what Jesus meant when he said that stuff about selling your stuff and whatnot.
I mean just look at it: Sell your stuff \ Beautiful car, nice home; Follow me \ Hey honey I’m on my way to work at the Christian bookstore, be sure to finish all your home school work before you play your new x box 360. When I get off I’m going to pick up the dry cleaning, then I’ll be back here to pick you guys up so we can go out to eat.
Yep, kinda see the resemblance there.
I definitely see the similarity between spreading the good news to all the world and the modern day Christendom we’ve created for ourselves.
Once again, Huh?

The truth is that the world was created with plenty – that word, in this context, means enough for everyone.
The American lifestyle, and sadly, the modern church’s lifestyle promotes lavish, luxurious, over indulgent, living, which is why there is still a major part of the world that goes to bed with nothing to eat… because of you, not because they are a people in sin (we are a people in sin).

I often find myself only thinking about… well, myself, and my ability to love is used up. There’s no more resources to do what Jesus asked me to do. This is why it is so important for us to be 100% Christian instead of that only being part of who we are.

Yes, I wrote this when I was really angry.

What All Else Hinges On

pendulum.jpg

Every action is a means to an end. If we can accurately foresee the ends to our current actions we can adequately change our current actions to fulfill the ends that we so desire.

I am a teenager and as such I think I know everything. I also know that I don’t know anything close to everything.

I am confident in the field on which I now fight, but am also aware of the fact that that field is changing, and fast.

Right now everything is so black and white; too black and white. I am apprehensive that I won’t be able to hold my ground on a field where grey is introduced; and there after greens and blues collide.

Ethics, morals, choices, they always exist and are constantly in motion, spinning around us like a cyclone on the plains.

Dilemmas on the other hand, are only created when we become aware of these – ethics, morals, and choices.
I must conclude then that greens, blues, even some reds and yellows must already be in the field where I am now standing, but I simply must be color-blind.

That would also mean that it is not the field itself that is changing; it is me.

Does that mean I can just stop?
No!
Stopping would be a choice and not just a one time choice at that. To stop something that was designed to be in constant motion takes a continual choice, and when a choice is what triggers the propulsion into motion it is then impossible to stop said something.
